Army Fitness Test Events
There are five main events of the army fitness test that test holders must pass to proceed to the next step. You can improve your event scores with the help of the efficient aft calculator given on this site. The explanation of these unique test events is:

3 REPETITION MAXIMUM DEADLIFT (MDL)
There are three repetitions for the soldiers in which they have to lift the maximum weight to pass the first event. While lifting the weight, a person has to follow the AFT rules, which differentiate this test from the normal ones. Deadlift performance also depends on the person’s weight and age.

HAND RELEASE PUSH-UP – ARM EXTENSION (HRP)
In the second AFT event, you have to perform the maximum hand-release push-ups in 2 minutes. The person with the maximum push-up repetitions within the given time will get the high score. The process of performing these push-ups involves releasing hands and extending arms while lowering oneself to the ground.

SPRINT-DRAG-CARRY (SDC)
A high-intensity event in the US Army fitness test is the sprint drag carry, where soldiers must demonstrate their strength, speed, and endurance. In this event, soldiers have to carry the kettlebells and throw them to the maximum distance while running in a position. Passing this event is easy for the maximum Nav Army.

TWO-MILE RUN (2MR)
In the 4th event, US Army soldiers have to run 2 miles within a given time duration. This event demonstrates a person’s stamina and cardiovascular fitness, which all the test holders easily prove. Aft usually adds this running competition to make the soldiers appear in long runs, missions, and field operations.

PLANK (PLK)
The last and toughest event of the aft test is the plank. In this event, soldiers have to maintain the plank position for the maximum duration, mostly above 30 or 60 seconds. In the plank position, only the person’s hands and toes touch the ground, and the whole body is straight in the position and above the ground.

Why the Army Switched from ACFT to AFT
On 1 June 2025, the US Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) will be replaced by the Army Fitness Test (AFT) to improve the soldiers’ fitness and reduce injuries. Multiple ACFT events are removed to allow the maximum number of people who are becoming soldiers to participate in the test and pass it with minimal effort and difficulty.
The main reasons for this switch include eliminating standing power, reducing injuries, focusing on combat fitness, and adopting gender-neutral standards. Still, in some US regions, the ACFT test is being held, and people participate in it, but in the future, this test will be replaced entirely by the AFT. If you want to join the US soldiers team, you must prepare yourself for the AFT test.
How to Calculate AFT Scores Manually?
If you don’t want to use any app or tool for calculating the aft scores, then you can do it manually. To calculate these scores manually, you should be aware of all the minimum and maximum scoring points of the US AFT calculator, test events, and details of the test. Perform all the tests and calculate scores by yourself, keeping your age, weight, and gender in mind.
